Welcome to the new AGCAS e-induction site. In this site you will find the different modules that form the e-induction programme. We recommend that you work through them in the order they appear, and focus on the core outcomes first before thinking about the optional learning objects. We hope you enjoy using the site. Please let us know if you have any feedback.

AGCAS Technology Day pre-course activities, programme & resources.
The NoticeBoard

The Noticeboard is the online equivilent of a traditional noticeboard. All important announcements will be posted on to the Noticeboard. Please remember to check regularly for updates and news.  This is also the area to "Find a Buddy" - just post your details - name, job role, how new  you are to HE and which major city you work closest to, and hopefully, somebody within a sensible meeting distance will contact you to share the experience of Moodling and e-induction

Introductory Course

This course introduces you to the AGCAS e-induction programme. It covers core information about using Moodle and about how the overall programme is structured. It also helps you review your IT skills and ensures that the support you need is in place.

You should start with this course as it puts all the necessary foundation blocks in place to help you get the most out of the whole programme.

The HE Sector

This course provides an overview of the HE Sector and will offer a useful introduction to those who are new to the sector.  If you already work in HE it will be a useful refresher of matters relevant to Career Services.

Careers Work in HE

This course provides a general introduction to the different aspects of the work of Careers Services in Higher Education.

Professional Roles in Careers Services

This course is laid out in modules for specific job roles ie Employer Liaison Specialists, Careers Information Specialists and Careers Advisers.  As job roles continue to diversify and multiply in Careers Services, other roles may need represention here in the future.  If your job role isn't represented and you feel that sufficient specific information exists - then please send us your feedback.  We will contact you to discuss how you can help us populate your suggested job role area with relevant information

Internationalisation Course

This course provides an introduction into some key aspects you may encounter when working with international students studying in the UK. It is designed to provide a basic overview for those who are new to working in HE careers, but it may also offer an update for experienced HE staff. However, internationalisation also needs to be seen in a wider context, such as helping international students with employment in their home countries and the challenges our home students face in an increasingly global market. This is also included in the course.

AGCAS Support for HE Careers Services

This course is for new AGCAS members.  It will tell you all you need to know about AGCAS and what AGCAS can do to help you throughout all the stages of your careers employment in HE.

HECSU/GP Support for HE Careers Services

This course covers the working relationship between AGCAS and HECSU/GP and explains the support they make available to HE Careers Services

Diversity

This course explores different aspects of Diversity and Equality issues in relation to the work of HE Careers Services.

AGCAS Jargon Busting Glossary

Higher Education in general and the world of HE Careers work in particular can be a confusing place with it's surfeit of acronyms and abbreviations. This module introduces you to the Moodle editable glossary which will help you to get to grips with the seemingly endless list of abbreviations and give you an overview of their meanings.

..........And finally!

This is the last course, and, it's not strictly a course.  This is the area where we would like you to post anything (which won't upset other users!) which you would like to share with other users, perhaps something that demonstrates your joy at finishing the e-induction?  So, do you have any photographs of yourself at your computer? Having a celebratory mug of coffee?  Meeting up with your buddy?  Or anything that you would like other e-induction users to see.  If you can't insert them yourself, send them to me (Linda.byrne@agcas.org.uk) and I will happily insert them for you.

Best wishes, Linda and the e-induction team
